Liposuction
?
Many Americans have only a vague concept of what liposuction is. Simply put, liposuction is the surgical removal of fat cells through a stainless steel suction tube called a cannula. Liposuction was first performed in 1974 and was a tremendous improvement over previous surgical body contouring techniques. There have been many advances in liposuction procedures over the last few decades, making it one of the safest and most popular body contouring surgeries in the world…

If you are considering liposuction, it is important that you have realistic expectations. Although dramatic results can be achieved, they may not be as immediate or obvious as you would like. As with all plastic surgery, the success of liposuction will depend on a number of individual factors, such as age, skin elasticity, weight, and overall health. Liposuction is not appropriate for people with a weakened immune system, diabetes, heart or artery problems, or a history of blood clots or restricted blood flow…
There are several types of liposuction procedures available, all of which use a wand-like instrument called a cannula to remove unwanted fat. Tumescent liposuction involves the injection if a large amount of anesthetic into the area being treated; the wet and super-wet techniques are variations of this type of liposuction. In ultrasonic assisted liposuction (UAL), sound waves are used to liquefy the fat before it is removed. LipoSelection® uses the same concept without disturbing the surrounding tissue…
The basic liposuction procedure involves the insertion of a small, tube-like instrument called a cannula through tiny incisions made by the surgeon. The cannula then breaks up and vacuums away unwanted fat deposits beneath the skin. Local or IV sedation will be used, depending on the type and number of liposuction procedures you undergo…

Following liposuction, always follow your doctor’s advice concerning your recovery. You will probably be instructed to wear a compression garment to accelerate the healing process. This will minimize post-operative swelling and bruising, improve the blood circulation and shorten recovery time.
Compression garments provide comfortable support to areas which have undergone liposuction and, by applying pressure, help the skin fit better to its new contours. Depending on your doctor’s advice, compression garments may need to be worn during both the first stage (initial first two weeks post surgery) and second stage (two to eight weeks post surgery) of recovery. Compression garments are worn like underwear beneath normal clothing.
It is important that a compression garment made specifically for plastic surgery recovery is worn, as choosing the wrong item can have a significant impact on your healing. Over-the-counter products (such as girdles, Lycra shorts, body suits, tights, shape wear and sports bras) are not recommended, because they are not designed for continuous wear during recovery. Wearing the wrong type of garment could be detrimental to the healing process, as it can slow down recovery, worsen swelling and other symptoms and increase post-operative discomfort.
One of the most important ways you can aid recovery following liposuction surgery is to rest and sleep on your back in an inclined position, as this will facilitate optimal blood circulation and help to reduce swelling. Resting and sleeping in an elevated position should be continued for as long as any major swelling remains. You can achieve this by propping yourself up on several pillows or by using a special wedge pillow. Wedge pillows have an incline to provide proper alignment to keep the affected areas elevated to help reduce swelling and enable optimal blood circulation to the healing areas. For patients who have undergone lower body liposuction, there are knee and leg wedges which keep the legs, thighs and calves comfortably elevated. Many patients find bed wedges to be better than pillows when it comes to elevation. The advantages of a wedge compared to a stack of precariously piled pillows are obvious, as you don’t have to worry about a wedge slipping off as you would with pillows and having to constantly rearrange them.
Another factor to be aware of during the initial weeks following liposuction surgery is that hot or steamy water can increase swelling. For this reason, avoid hot showers and make sure the water is only moderately warm. Power showers are best avoided, due to the strong pressure of water streaming directly down on to fragile surgical areas.
As far as general diet is concerned following liposuction surgery, you should keep salt to a minimum, as this worsens swelling. Therefore, as far as possible food or drinks containing salt should be avoided during the recovery period. Drinking plenty of water with fresh lemon will aid in eliminating toxins from your body and help reduce swelling. Eat foods containing vitamin K, such as eggs, yoghurt and lettuce, as vitamin K is said to be beneficial in reducing swelling.
Clinica Arroyo Goldstein specifies the need for safety in conducting surgery. They outline risks in undertaking surgeries and also talk about the general anesthesia that is used during the surgery.
There are three risk conditions while performing this surgery. The first risk is removal of excessive amounts of fat on the same day at the same time. The second is removal of fat from different parts of the body on the same day. And, the third is combining surgery along with other unrelated surgical procedures that might involve the patient being under anesthesia for a longer duration. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that is commonly used during this surgery. Most deaths related to this surgical procedure have occurred due to the general anesthesia.
Surgeons should take care not to operate on patients, who have unrealistic medical expectations, and a medical history. Surgeons should not attempt to operate on multiple areas on the same day. It is always safer to work on different parts of the body on different days and not on the same day. Most of the time the patient’s body is not able to deal with continuous stress. Lipoplasty is a common surgical procedure that comes under the category of cosmetic surgery, and is undertaken to enhance one’s looks and appearance. More awareness is required regarding different lipoplasty procedures that are performed by different surgeons across the world
Liposuction surgery may be carried out on both men and women whose fat is distributed unevenly. It is not a method of reducing weight, rather an alternative for removing fatty deposits which persist no matter how much exercise, massage or dieting is undertaken. The liposuction surgery may be performed under general or local anaesthesia, depending on the site to be treated and the amount of fat to be removed. The time the liposuction operation takes varies from 30-90 minutes, depending upon the extent of the procedure. Less extensive liposculpture can be performed as a day case but normally an overnight stay in hospital is recommended.

What is ?
means “removal of fat” by surgery. Fat is permanently removed from the area of liposuction. After the age of 18 years, the height of any individual is fixed and you do not grow any taller. Similarly the number of fat cells in the body is also fixed at the age of 18 years and subsequently the fat cells can increase in size, but not in number. Thus, the area where has been done looses the fat along with the fat cells and the reduction is permanent as the fat cells have been removed from that area. In liposuction, you not only lose weight, but also attains improvement in the contour of the body- you can loose 4″ to 6″ or even more from your waist-line. Up to 6litres of fat can be suctioned safely in one sitting, although more can also be done depending on the individual case.
Surgery through :
Most liposuctions at our centre are performed under general anesthesia. , especially small volume can be performed under I.V sedation and local anesthesia too. The surgeon will make a very small incision of approximately 0.1 inches long (3 mm) and will insert a small tube called cannula under your skin. The cannula may be connected to a device that generates high vacuum pressure or to a special syringe. The unwanted fat deposits, which prior to this process were treated with injections of a special liquid (saline solution combined with local anesthesia and a vasoconstrictor), are removed from under your skin through the cannula by suction. This liquid generates the adequate conditions for the extraction of fat. The cannula is moved under the skin to reach all the desired areas. The numbers of incisions vary according to the characteristics of each area, but it is usually more than one. In ultrasonic assisted (UAL), a special cannula that emits ultrasonic waves is used. Since these waves cause the fat cells to rupture and the fat is liquefied, its removal becomes much easier.
Candidates for :
Not everyone is a good candidate for . It is not a good alternative to dieting or exercising. To be a good candidate, one must usually be over 18 and in good general health, have tried a diet and exercise regime and have found that the last 10 or 15 pounds persist in certain pockets on the body. Diabetes, any infection, heart or circulation problems, generally nullify one’s eligibility for the procedure. In older people, the skin is usually less elastic, limiting the ability of the skin to readily tighten around the new shape. In this case, other procedures can be added to the , such as an Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).
Recovery from :
Depending on the extent of the liposuction, patients are generally able to return to work or school between two days and two weeks. A compression garment or bandage is worn for two to four weeks. If non-absorbable sutures are placed, they will be removed after five to ten days. After a typical performed in the abdomen or waist, you may lose between 7 to 11 pounds (3.5 to 5 kg), according to the area treated. Your body will have more harmonious lines, which will probably make you feel more satisfied when you look at yourself and will make it easier to choose new clothes. The scars, which are very small, will become unnoticeable in no time.
Non surgical alternatives for :
One non-surgical alternative for that has gained in popularity is the use of shapewear garments. Although shapewear cannot provide patients with the same level of results as liposuction, body scans have shown that they can remove bulges and slim the waist, hips, and thighs. Most shapewear products are similar to the post-surgical compression garments but unlike the post-surgical garments, shapewear is designed for long-term daily use.
Why to consider
Prices and cost budget for are normally 50% below the cost that runs in US and Europe plus Indian hospitals don’t charge any hidden costs. As health care costs skyrocket, patients in the developed world are looking overseas for medical treatment. India is capitalizing on its low costs and highly trained doctors to appeal to these “medical tourists”. Water Liposuction or Water Assisted Liposuction with Body-Jet is the newest FDA approved liposuction. Unlike laser or other liposuction methods, the new technique uses water which is the most natural substance to our delicate body to loosen up fat from the connective tissue for easy removal. It is ultra safe and highly effective. People see results instantly and recover even faster.
Liposuction has long been used as a body contouring method to remove pockets of unwanted fat. As a liposuction surgeon in Los Angeles, I offer several methods of liposuction that can be used to help suction fat including the tumescent, power assisted, and ultrasound assisted techniques, to name a few. While this body contouring method is appropriate for small-scale fat removal, particularly in areas such as the abdomen, back, love handles and thighs, it is important for women and men to understand that liposuction should not be considered a substitute for eating a healthy diet and living an active lifestyle.
Liposuction is helpful for removing small pockets of fat that remain resistant to diet and exercise, and it is important to note that this procedure should not be considered for large-scale fat removal. As a plastic surgeon in Los Angeles, sometimes called the beauty capital of the country, I frequently have consultations with people who want to contour and shape their bodies to look more toned and lean. This is a perfectly legitimate reason to be considering liposuction.
While liposuction can provide remarkable body contouring results, it is not a cellulite removal method, and in some cases overall skin tone may appear somewhat decreased after a liposuction procedure, particularly if a patient has less than optimal skin tone or slightly sagging skin to begin with. If skin tone is a particular concern to you, talk with your surgeon about options for cellulite treatment, such as SmoothShapes®, and skin tightening, including Thermage®.
For the most part liposuction is a permanent solution for fat removal. The fat cells that are suctioned will not increase in number, but they can increase in size. Those who have had a liposuction treatment should try to maintain their body weight at the time of surgery even after their procedure to ensure that the results remain for many years.
There are several types of liposuction techniques that can be used, depending on the patient, including:
I use the tumescent liposuction technique for my Los Angeles patients who want to remove localized fat deposits in various areas of the body. This method uses large volumes of saline solution, local anesthesia and adrenaline to make the fat cells easier to remove while limiting blood loss. Then, a cannula (small tube) is inserted that suctions away excess fat. This is a very traditional liposuction method and is widely used in practices across the country.
This liposuction technique uses a suction tube that vibrates at the tip at a fast speed in order to help break up and loosen the fat cells. This allows for gentler suctioning of the fat cells, and causes less damage to surrounding tissue than other liposuction methods. Other benefits include decreased surgical time, less anesthesia required, and greater precision.
Ultrasonic liposuction emits high-energy sound waves through the cannula that rupture the cell walls of fat cells, subsequently causing the cells to liquefy. Traditional liposuction is then used to remove the liquefied fat. The ultrasonic method is most beneficial for removing areas of fat that are especially fibrous, such as the chest, flanks and lower back.
This innovative body contouring method works by using laser technology to rupture fat cells. The cannula emits laser energy that liquefies fat cells, and the fat cells can be suctioned away or left to be absorbed naturally by the body through its own cleansing process.
In summary, while it is not an acceptable way to lose weight, liposuction can be extremely helpful in contouring and shaping the body. However, like all cosmetic procedures, liposuction also has its limitations and having a complete understanding of what is possible is essential for patients to be satisfied with their procedure outcome.
